Comrade Oscar López Rivera, with a lot of excitement and emotion, gave his first public declarations while conquering his freedom, after expending 35 years incarcerated at the dungeons of the empire.
His first words were resounding and clear: “The independence of Puerto Rico is possible”. “We can transcend everything that is happening. Everything. It is just about wanting it”, affirmed Oscar.
These message of human endurance, shows how important ideals are, a huge teaching for all women and men who, with their own hands, build their nations daily. “We can not surrender, we have to fight and fight. We will never yield. If we love our Motherland, we have the obligation to defend it”, stated Oscar López.
Converted into an internationalist referent, Oscar gave a lecture to the whole world while affirming: “Celebrating life is an issue for us all, to feel strong in any given condition, to keep pushing forward”.
He also remembered that the unity of the peoples is one of the biggest forces of all history, “Anyone who loves their Motherland has the duty to fight for its independence. And we have to do it united, really united. I do not believe in sectarianism”, highlighted Oscar.
Of course, López Rivera remembered that the fight for the freedom of the political prisoners is more alive than ever, and reminded that there are Black Panther militants jailed since the 60s.
