On Monday, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Serguéi Lavrov, pushed for the total lifting of the blockade imposed against Yemen by Saudi Arabia and its allies, a siege that is causing serious problems for the Yemeni citizens.

“It is important to achieve the total lifting of the maritime and aerial blockade, the ending of the limitations for the supply of food, medicine and other goods of first necessity”, stated Lavrov during a conjoint press conference with Abdelmalik al-Mejlafi, chancellor of the former government of the fugitive Yemeni ex president, Abdu Raby Mansur Hadi (backed by Saudi Arabia and its allies), in Moscu.

At the same time, he saluted Saudi Arabia’s decision of temporarily lifting the blockade on the Al-Hudayda port -a measure that began after severe pressures on behalf of the international community- and expressed his hope for the definitive end of the siege.

He also demanded to the different sides to take into consideration the poor conditions of the civilians in Yemen and to try to find a political solution that includes all the Yemeni parts to the current crisis.

According to the Yemeni Department of Health, the Saudi military campaign initiated in March 2015 against Yemen has cost the life of over 10.000 Yemenis, besides destroying a great part of the infrastructure which includes hospitals, schools and factories.

The United Nations demanded Saudi Arabia to end this “stupid war” over and over again.
