In contrast to London which produces 81,394 tonnes of carbon on an average day, Birmingham only produces a daily carbon footprint of around 11,557 tonnes. While this figure may seem small in comparison if you were to create a cube of carbon emissions to represent 81,394 tonnes of carbon, it would be 32 meters taller than one of Birmingham’s most famous landmarks, the BT Tower.
Leeds produces the third highest daily carbon emissions in the UK and produces approximately 10,862 tonnes of carbon emissions on a regular day. Which trails just behind Birmingham’s average carbon emission of 11,557 tonnes of CO2. If you’d like a visual representation of what 10,862 tonnes of CO2 would look like, it would dwarf Leeds’ municipal building by 112 meters.
Glasgow is the first city outside of England to feature on the list of the UK’s top six carbon producing cities. Glasgow, which is located in Scotland produces approximately 7,175 tonnes of CO2 per day. Which is still a sizeable amount. In fact, 7,175 tonnes of CO2 would still produce a CO2 cube which would dwarf Glasgow Tower. Which holds the title of being the tallest structure in Glasgow.
Belfast produces the highest volume of carbon emissions in Ireland. On an average day Belfast produces 4,198 tonnes of carbon in a day. While this amount may seem insignificant, especially compared to the average carbon emissions which are created in London, 4,198 tonnes of carbon is still a large number. Belfast’s daily carbon emissions are roughly the same height as Titanic Belfast which stands at 38 meters in height.
Brighton has a relatively small daily carbon emission of 2,466 tonnes. Which is 32 times lower than the average daily carbon emissions in London. A fact that is staggering to think about. Brighton’s daily carbon emissions in visual form would be approximately 52 meters shorter than one of Brighton’s most famous landmarks, the i360 Seafront Observation Tower.
